about
My work is an attempt to draw links between our everyday experiences, and the social, political and cultural forces that shape our lives. I believe that each is essential to the understanding of the other. I am interested in who makes work, how, why, for whom, and why that matters. I explore collective processes, and their value for individual and collective growth and change. I am interested in what happens when we make work together; ways of achieving things that none of us could alone. Art making is a form of collective dreaming, if we let it.

kino climates Pan-European not-for-profit cinema network
2010-present

In 2010 I was part of a pan-European conference for micro- and not-for-profit cinemas held at International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR). I was part of a group representing the Star and Shadow Cinema, where I was part of the non-heirarchical collective running the cinema between 2008-2011. At the conference we founded Kino Climates, a pan-European network which meets annually in a different European country for a week-long conference. Each conference has three elements:
  • A series of co-programmed masterclasses, where different cinemas run sessions on areas of expertise (for example programming, projecting, film making techniques) for representatives from other cinemas
  • Plenary sessions, where actions that will further the work of the network over the coming year are decided (for example touring programmes, work on the website, collaborative projects)
  • A public programme of moving image work from all of the participating cinemas

I attended Kino Climates as a member of the Star and Shadow for the first few years, and as a representative of Deptford Cinema from 2014 onwards.
