down and out

I have been commissioned by the Orwell Foundation to make an artists moving image work that explores some of the themes of George Orwell's Down and Out in Paris and London (1933), and is a companion piece to their immersive London and Paris production Down and Out Live.

The work is currently in production. I'm using techniques from documentary, essay film and narrative fiction, and both live action and animation, to tell the story of homelessness and precarity in London and Paris.

As well as some high profile writers and thinkers on the subject, I've been working with a wonderful group of people who've experienced homelessness in London, and some young people who've experienced homelessness and are now based in Stoke on Trent. Over the summer and autumn I'll be filming in London and Paris and working with participants to create a finished moving image work, to be completed early 2019.
